this seems not related to MS AJAX. I think you should add a WHERE clause to the select command in the panel1Repeat data source. The WHERE clause should test against a parameter containing the category selected from the DropDownList.

You are exactly right. I have put the WHERE clause in and all works fine. I am doing an ASP.NET AJAX project without knowing a great deal about old fashioned ASP. I'll get there.
